This year’s summit will be held virtually via Zoom on Friday, February 4, 2022 due to current statewide health and safety regulations. The #RealCollegeCalifornia Basic Needs Summit Planning Committee is now accepting presentation proposals. The Call for Proposals deadline is Friday, November 12, 2021. If you have any questions, please contact Sadie Brown at

The Basic Needs Planning Committee is seeking proposals across a variety of strands. The committee is especially interested in panels that highlight student voices and student-centered programming and services. To that end, practitioner-student proposals that will spark honest discussions about placing students at the center of the continuum of care in addressing basic need insecurities are highly favorable. Proposals are encouraged to fit into one of the following strands:

  • Utilizing student-centered design principles to address basic needs
  • Employing advocacy strategies to advance basic needs as a fundamental right
  • Providing emergency housing assistance and innovative housing projects
  • Initiating fresh approaches to Cal-Fresh and food assistance partnerships
  • Advancing technology & innovative solutions to address basic needs
  • Addressing basic needs with emergency resources & innovative partnerships

The goal of the summit is to provide attendees with practical strategies that they can take back to their colleges. Attendees will adopt a strategy for further exploration, discussion, or implementation when they return to their campuses and connect with colleagues 3-6-9 months after the summit for support.
