The California Community College League of California Reaffirms Commitment to Educational Opportunity for All Post-Election

SACRAMENTO, CA - California community colleges were founded with the goal of fostering excellence and guaranteeing educational access for all. Now one in every five community college students in the nation attends a California community college. Over 67 percent of California community college students are people of diverse ethnic backgrounds and roughly 53 percent are female. The vitality and stability of California will thrive in direct proportion to its ability to foster a productive sense of acceptance in this diverse, multicultural environment and the economic viability of the California community college system depends, in part, on the stability of our enrollment in this diverse environment.

The California Community College League of California is committed to ensuring educational opportunity and success for all students regardless of race, ethnicity, language, culture, national origin, socio- economic class, age, physical ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, and religious beliefs, national status, or economic status. This commitment is manifested not only in federal law, but in California state laws and regulations promulgated by the Legislature and Board of Governors, which provide financial assistance and academic support to students with a demonstrated need for such assistance. California Community Colleges are committed to being and remaining a welcoming environment for all students, including undocumented students. The safety and wellbeing of all California community college students will continue to be a primary concern as we monitor national issues that impact our campuses including immigration, and increasing access to high quality educational opportunities.
