California Community College Trustees Elect New Officers at Annual Business Meeting

SACRAMENTO, CA – Over the weekend, the California Community College Trustees (CCCT) convened for their Annual Business Meeting during the Community College League of California’s (League) 2019 Annual Trustees Conference. A report on the work of the association was provided, newly elected board members were introduced, and trustees had the opportunity to offer direction to the CCCT Board on major issues facing students and their districts.

The annual meeting also included the election of the following 2019-2020 CCCT Board officers:

  • President: Linda Wah, Pasadena Area CCD
  • President-Elect: Stephan Castellanos, San Joaquin Delta CCD
  • First Vice President: Adrienne Grey, West Valley-Mission CCD
  • Second Vice President: Kenneth Brown, El Camino CCD

“I am honored to serve as the President of the CCCT, and to continue the initiatives to ensure our California Community College students have access to high-quality education and the assistance and resources to complete and succeed,” said Linda Wah, Pasadena Area CCD Trustee and CCCT Board President.

New officers of the CCCT Board begin their term on June 1, 2019. The CCCT Board takes positions on education policy issues that come before the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and the California State Legislature.

In addition, the Annual Trustees Conference offered an opportunity for trustees to strengthen their board governance practices, engage in conversations to ensure their colleges achieve student success outcomes, and improve collaboration with their community. Conference speakers included Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart who shared Amarillo College’s No Excuses leadership philosophy around building systemic support for low-income students and sessions focused on fiscal responsibility, educational trends, and effective trusteeship.

“The role of California Community College Trustees and public governance has never been more important for the success of our students and our colleges,” said Larry Galizio, President & CEO of the Community College League of California. “This conference offers an invaluable opportunity for ongoing professional development and information exchange."

During the conference, the League honored five trustees for 20 years of service to California’s community colleges. The trustees awarded the Fulfilling the Trust Award included: Fred Perez, Butte-Glenn CCD; Rudy Cardenas, Imperial CCD; John Hanna, Rancho Santiago CCD; Donald Gelles, Chabot-Las Positas CCD; and Joanne Montgomery, Citrus CCD.
