Community College League of California Welcomes New CEO Board President Marvin Martinez and Honors Chancellor Brian King for His Leadership

SACRAMENTO, CA - On Friday, June 22, the Community College League of California (League) welcomed East Los Angeles College President Marvin Martinez as Board President of the Chief Executive Officers for California Community Colleges (CEOCCC) and thanked Los Rios Community College District Chancellor Brian King for his service as the 2016-17 and 2017-18 Chair and CEOCCC President.

President Martinez began his term as the League CEOCCC Board President by highlighting his priorities.  In the 2018-19 academic year, Martinez will focus on facilitating effective communication and coordination with community college stakeholder groups which includes establishing a Leadership Council to support this effort. Martinez will also focus on supporting CEOs through the implementation of significant college-level reforms and highlight the successes of community colleges statewide.

The League also thanked Chancellor Brian King of the Los Rios Community College District for his significant accomplishments since 2016. Chancellor King’s courageous leadership helped guide the CEO Board and the League through challenging times that included substantial changes for the 72 districts.  King’s leadership helped unify the North and South CEO annual convenings into a cohesive statewide CEO Symposium, and he led a deeper review of necessary changes to improve the college accreditation processes.  He also led critical conversations to clarify the relationship between the League and the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA).  As Chair of the League Board of Directors, Chancellor King provided guidance and policy direction to the organization’s CEO and staff as the League’s five-year strategic plan - Strategy 2021 -  was developed.

President Martinez will serve as the CEOCCC Board President through June 2019.  As Board President, he will also chair the Statewide CEO Meeting in November and the 2019 CEO Symposium. Martinez has been a member of the CEOCCC Board since 2015.
