Leaders at the Community College League of California’s 2018 Annual Legislative Conference

SACRAMENTO, CAAssembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) will address members of California’s 114 community colleges on Monday, January 29 at the Sheraton Grand Hotel. Student-Focused for a Stronger California is the focal point of the Community College League of California’s (League) 2018 Annual Legislative Conference, where Speaker Rendon will highlight the important role California’s community colleges play in stimulating the state’s economy and providing career opportunities for Californians.

The League's Annual Legislative Conference provides a unique opportunity for chancellors, presidents, trustees, and community college advocates to connect and learn the latest news about California higher education. Sessions focused on best practices to ensure colleges have access to guided pathways resources, funding to support student success programs and to close the achievement gaps, and advocacy strategies for the current legislative year.

Conference attendees will be joined by Assemblymember Kevin McCarty, Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance, and Senator Anthony J. Portantino, Chair of the Senate Budget Subcommittee on Education, for town hall meetings to discuss the Legislature’s higher education priorities. “The town hall meetings provide an opportunity for elected officials to discuss their 2018 higher education legislative agenda, and community college presidents, trustees and advocates to share feedback and concerns regarding the implementation of current policies,” said, Larry Galizio, President & CEO of the Community College League of California.

In addition, attendees will hold one-on-one legislative meetings with their state representatives to discuss key priorities that advance student success and provide quality educational options to all Californians.
